A native of Hong Kong, cellist Cara Cheung has performed across Asia, Europe and North America.
Ms. Cheung began her formal training at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts under the tutelage of renowned pedagogy Professor Ray Wang. While there, she was awarded the Hong Kong Jockey Club scholarship – a full tuition and stipend scholarship for all years of undergraduate studies. She then further her study at Shepherd School of Music at Rice University with Brinton Smith where she received her Master’s degree. She also holds an Artist diploma from University of Hartford.
Ms.Cheung believes music is one of the best ways to learn to stay in the moment and train one’s concentration. A piece of advice she would give to the aspiring musicians is to work hard and always have deliberate practice time. But it’s also important to have a fun session: find and play pieces/ tunes that make one happy.
Ms. Cheung performs with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and New Haven Symphony Orchestra. She is a faculty member at Eastern Connecticut State University. She resides in East Lyme with her husband, daughter and a very cute 25 lbs dog.
Cara teaches on Mondays and Fridays.
